Our 3rd Annual Community Reading Day event will be held on Saturday March 17, 2018 at the local branch of the Los Angeles Public Library in San Pedro from 2PM to 4PM.

Our program is designed to identify and include the most challenged local children and give them tools and inspiration to develop literacy skills to achieve success in school and in life.

This fun and entertaining program will include a library tour and instant library cards for those who do not have them, and children's book authors Annabeth Bondor-Stone and Connor White will present their wild and whacky reading of their book "SHIVERS - The Pirate Who is Afraid of EVERYTHING!". This program is designed to show young children that reading is fun. They follow with an interactive session where the audience creates characters, a narrative, and completes a simple story. What fun!

At the end of the program there are snacks and every child will receive a backpack of several good books to own, including "Shivers!" which the authors will sign for each child.

See Annabeth and Connor in action in the video link here!

While the kids are busy, their parents or caregivers will be coached by a skilled bilingual educator in habits and tools that support building good reading skills at home.

The intent of this program is to instill a love for reading - a skill that is the key to success as these students move beyond the simple concepts of early school training. Better early readers can open the doors to opportunity in all the future phases of life.

And of course, 100% of your donation to our local kids is tax deductible. This donation site will provide you with a valid 501(c)(3) receipt for submittal to the IRS.

We have a strong head-start as well - our club has donated $500 in seed money and Rotary District 5190 (of Greater Los Angeles) has awarded our project a local grant of $2,000! We're half way there already.

We ask that you join us in giving this campaign for literacy your support in any way you can.
