Has your summer come and gone far too quickly? Perhaps.

But have you thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless? I know I have!

Our Rotary Club has already donated 63 hours of volunteer service since July 1, we've inducted one new member, and we're gearing up for a slew of projects and programs to get involved in. It's an exciting time to be part of it! Thank you to everyone for contributing to the effort!

Many, many important things to mention, but first:  NO morning meeting this week! Our evening fellowship gathering will be at club member Manny Jimenez's new Black Knight Patrol office! It's literally next door to our morning Crown Plaza Hotel meeting location -- 255 W. 6th Street, San Pedro. Check out Leon Nixon's message to the club about the festivities that are planned for the evening:

This month’s 4th Thursday theme is Back to School.

I'm thinking, if you want, bring your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbors, protege’, etc.

Why?  Well, 1) it gives the babysitter the evening off, 2) we want you and them to feel comfortable bringing them to Rotary events, service projects, etc., and 3) they can meet other young, future Rotarians. Everyone is encouraged to bring back-to-school supplies to give away. If no future Rotarians come, we'll donate the school supplies to a local school.

Now, this is for the bold among us.  If you dare, bring an old photo of yourself.  It could be a school photo, or maybe just a photo of you in younger days.  You know the photo -- the one of you with longer hair on that motorcycle, or you wearing those cool shorts in that themed t-shirt the day you learned to drive.

How cool would that be to see our members as yesterday’s version of today’s “student of the month.”

It will also show our future Rotarians (you seen the theme here), that we were young once. I remember as a kid, looking at pictures of my family in younger days, and thinking, "Wow!" That never gets old.

Wanna be young again?  Think young. See you Thursday!

The District Picnic is also this week, Saturday evening 5-9pm. Everyone's favorite beach party and cardboard boat race is back! It's fun for the entire family -- fabulous food, chili competition, music, and a karaoke contest! Check the event's page for more information!

Lastly, remember to wear your Rotary pins! Wear it to work, wear it to your meetings. Wear them in the house, wear it on your blouse! As Rotary International President Barry Rassin says -- Be The Inspiration! We do a lot of good in San Pedro and globally. Let's keep our visibility and presence up.

And, as always, if you have a project you think our club should get involved in -- even if we've never done it before -- suggest it to one of the board members! We'd love to hear about it, and the project will help keep us meeting our goal of two service projects per month!

See you Thursday!
